Hope everyone has recovered from the 'toxins' of the festive seasons or should we say the joys of being in the Christmas Spirit as well as the aura of the new year.
For those back home in the villages in Fiji, the season is not only to celebrate Christmas & New Year but also to present the younger urban born daughters, sons or nieces/nephews to the village elders as this may be their first taste of village life. It is an exciting time and one that involves alot of planning & savings in order to afford the gifts & tokens that are symbolic to these much loved protocols.
There will be alot of merrymaking, 'na qiri kava', exchange of goods 'se vaka mamaca mai na veisui e na wai'. These are the traits that city dwellers do not really experience. It is indeed a 'die-hard' tradition which adds & enhance these festive seasons.
